I'm just curious as to how your company is covering for you to be out on maternity leave and if you are using short term disability or long term disability and how they are stipulating FMLA.
also, how are your insurance premiums getting paid while you are out of work?
My company is only covering me under FMLA for 12 weeks whether I use STD/LTD. So they will only hold and guarantee my position for 12 weeks. I also have to pay my insurance premium on my own by the 25th of each month while i'm out. My STD kicks in after 2 weeks.

I am going out 3 weeks prior to due date, using one week vacation two weeks STD. I am aloud 4 weeks STD prior to delivery. I am then 6 or 8 weeks STD depending on delivery and then additional 12 weeks of FMLA with FLI insurance. Basically I am out 18 weeks at about 60 percent pay. I only have to pay my contribution towards my health insurance, about 60 dollars every two weeks. I am adding a month to this to be out about 6 months total, that month I am completely responsible for our health insurance...that is gonna suck but I see it as COBRA out for one month..

My company only allows me up to 12 weeks FMLA for pregnancy/after birth (so if I have to be out any time prior to delivery or use FMLA for appointments, that is counted into that).
Since I've paid into STD, I am able to utilize that. My company has a policy that we use 5 days PTO before STD kicks in and takes over. STD pays 2/3 of each pay up to $400 & the company pays me the difference between my normal pay & what STD pays.
I believe that my premiums will still come out of the portion that the company pays.
STD will only pay for up to 6 weeks vaginal or 8 weeks c-section; however if I have to leave work prior to delivery, that is not included in post delivery coverage, but still counts towards my 12 weeks of FMLA.

Castaway-you lucky duck you!! I thought that is how my company would do it as well. Use std first and then fmla starts up, but they keep saying NO! I guess it just depends on the company? I'm going to do my best to work up until delivery if I can so that I can spend as much time with the LO as possible. I also get 60% of my income on disability as well. Thank you for your reply!

I'm requesting 12 weeks of FMLA. Everything I've read said it runs concurrently with the 6 or 8 weeks of short term disability. After I exhaust my 12 weeks, I'm asking for 12 additional weeks under CFRA for "baby bonding." So a total of 24 weeks. If I take time before delivery, it cuts into my FMLA time so I'm working as much as I can before delivery. I've been told this is "unpaid" time and my job will not pay even a percentage. But for this pregnancy, I am using up ALL my sick time to cover all that time (I have a lot of accrued sick time that has accumulated over the years). My friend didn't have sick days so she only took time under FMLA. .... I have yet to get all this approved, so I'll keep you updated on whether or not I can get what I'm requesting. I'm letting them know in about a week. Not sure about the insurance premiums.

What is CFRA? my company seems pretty set on 12 weeks is all I get regardless of how they are being used.

My company does FMLA. I get 6 weeks paid, but can take up to 12. If I take 12, they just split my usual pay in half and stretch it out over the 12 weeks (so I still get 6 weeks pay, just stretched out over 12 weeks)

CFRA= California Family Rights Act. Not sure if different states have different state laws similar to this. The information is online but I was first told about it from an attorney who deals with maternity leave issues. Like yourself, I am sure I'll get the FMLA time. The CFRA time may be more difficult. I'll be a mess if they give me a hard time. I just don't think 12 weeks is enough!

I've been out since 16 weeks. I am using STD and taking FMLA (though my employer has authorized over the 12 weeks they are required to). I have to send in payments for any insurance that is normally taken out of my check and after 12 weeks I'll have to pay for my health insurance as well (they normally pay 100%).
